What a Panel Upgrade Costs
| Job | Typical price |
|---|---|
| 100-amp to 200-amp panel replacement, all in | $2,200–$4,800 |
| Added meter base, service mast or grounding work | Included in the quote when the service entrance needs it |
| 400-amp service, generator-ready and specialty panels | Quoted after an on-site load calculation |
Financing is available through Synchrony Bank, subject to credit approval. See financing options
Every quote is written before work starts, as a flat rate or as a detailed itemized quote, and it includes the panel, breakers, permit, inspection and labor. The published ranges are estimates; an on-site load calculation sets your number.
When Do You Need a Panel Upgrade?
The usual reasons a DFW homeowner calls us about the panel:
- A load calculation shows a 100-amp or smaller service cannot carry the loads you have or plan to add
- You have a Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) Stab-Lok panel. CPSC testing confirmed some Stab-Lok breakers fail UL calibration tests
- You have a Zinsco or Sylvania-Zinsco panel: obsolete, no longer made, and routinely flagged by home inspectors
- You still have a fuse box with screw-in fuses instead of breakers
- Breakers trip when two kitchen appliances run at once
Our Panel Upgrade Services
From evaluation to final inspection, the work is ours:
- 100-amp to 200-amp service upgrades, with a new meter base, service entrance cable and grounding where the service needs them
- 200-amp to 400-amp upgrades for large homes, workshops and properties with more than one building
- Federal Pacific (FPE) Stab-Lok panel replacement, including removal and disposal of the old panel
- Zinsco and Sylvania-Zinsco panel replacement
- Fuse box to breaker panel conversion, with AFCI and GFCI protection where the code requires it
Panel Upgrade Process: What to Expect
What happens, in order:
- Step 1 — On-site evaluation: we look at the panel, the meter base, the service entrance and the grounding, and run a load calculation to set the amperage.
- Step 2 — Written quote: a flat-rate or itemized quote covering the panel, breakers, permit, inspection, labor and any meter base or grounding work.
- Step 3 — Permit: we apply to your city. Turnaround varies by city.
- Step 4 — Utility coordination: we schedule the disconnect and reconnect with your utility (Oncor, TNMP or CoServ, depending on the address). Power is typically off for 4–8 hours during the swap.
- Step 5 — Installation: the old panel comes out, the new panel goes in with new breakers, the grounding is brought up to the current requirements, and every circuit is reconnected and labeled.
- Step 6 — Inspection: the city electrical inspector checks the work against the code edition your city enforces.
- Step 7 — Reconnect and testing: power is restored, every circuit is tested, and we walk you through the new panel.
Panel Evaluation & Quote
Not sure the panel needs replacing? We inspect it, run the load calculation, and tell you what we find. If the panel is safe and big enough, we say so. If it needs replacing, the quote is in writing and there is no obligation. The quote names the panel make and model.
