Level 2 EV Charger Installation in DFW

Most Dallas-Fort Worth Level 2 home charger installations run $800–$2,500, including the dedicated 240V circuit, permit and inspection; the panel and the distance from it set where you land. Clements Electric installs NEMA 14-50 outlets and hardwired wall units, checks your panel's load first, and gives you a written quote. Call 817-803-4444 or book online.

May Need a Panel Upgrade?

A 100A or 125A panel may not have room for a dedicated EV circuit. If yours needs an upgrade, we do both jobs: a 100A to 200A replacement typically runs $2,200–$4,800 all in, quoted in writing after an on-site load calculation.

Learn About Panel Upgrades

Typical Cost

Most DFW Level 2 installations run $800–$2,500 depending on panel capacity and wiring distance. Simple installations near the panel cost less. Longer wiring runs, panel upgrades, or complex routing increase the total. Every job receives a written, itemized quote before work begins.

Does Your Electrical Panel Have the Capacity?

A Level 2 charger runs on a dedicated 40A–60A circuit for hours at a time, which is why the panel is checked first. Many 200A panels with open breaker spaces can take it; a 100A or 125A service often cannot without a panel upgrade or a load management device. We do not add a charger circuit to a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel without discussing replacement first.

The panel load check is part of every free EV charger quote. If the panel needs an upgrade, we do the panel replacement and the charger installation as one project.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Level 2 home EV charger installation cost in DFW?

Most DFW Level 2 installations run $800–$2,500 depending on panel capacity, wiring distance, and whether you choose a NEMA 14-50 outlet or a hardwired unit. A simple installation near the panel with available capacity is on the lower end. Longer wiring runs, panel upgrades, or complex routing increase the cost. Clements Electric provides written, itemized quotes before any work begins.

Do I need a permit to install an EV charger in Texas?

Yes. Most DFW cities require an electrical permit for a new dedicated 240V circuit installation. Clements Electric handles all permitting and inspection coordination as part of the installation service — you do not need to visit city hall or schedule inspections yourself.

What is the difference between a NEMA 14-50 outlet and a hardwired EV charger?

A NEMA 14-50 outlet is a 240V receptacle on a 50A circuit that a portable charging cord plugs into, and a charger on it can draw at most 40A, because EV charging is a continuous load sized at 125%. A hardwired wall unit is connected permanently and, on a 60A circuit, can charge at 48A. Hardwiring removes the plug as a wear point; the outlet is cheaper and lets you take the charger with you when you move.

Will my electrical panel support an EV charger?

Many homes with a 200A panel and open breaker spaces can take a dedicated EV circuit, but the answer comes from a load calculation, not the panel rating alone. Homes with 100A–125A panels, or Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels, may need a panel upgrade or a load management device. The panel check is part of every free EV charger quote.

How long does EV charger installation take?

A standard installation with the panel in or near the garage takes 2–4 hours. Installations requiring longer wiring runs, conduit work, or panel upgrades may take a full day. Same-day and next-day weekday appointments are available across the DFW metroplex.
